While a definitive release date remains under wraps, framing the title alongside the franchise's upcoming 25th anniversary in 2027 suggests the launch window is fast approaching.
A Striking, Gritty New Reality in Quadratum
The brand-new trailer offers our most substantial look at the game since its initial 2022 announcement teaser, putting the power of Unreal Engine 5 on full display. The footage focuses heavily on Sora navigating the massive, ultra-realistic urban landscape of Quadratum, a world that looks strikingly identical to Tokyo's bustling Shibuya district.
Leaning into a much darker, rain-soaked aesthetic than the franchise has ever attempted, the trailer showcases Sora sprinting across skyscrapers and engaging in kinetic, high-octane Kaiju-scale battles against massive Heartless looming over the city streets. Despite the dramatic visual glow-up and shift toward realism, the series' signature DNA remains intact, with Donald Duck and Goofy explicitly confirmed to be returning for the ride.
Goodbye Cloud: Native Back Catalog Hits Switch 2 This October
In a massive victory for Nintendo fans who were burned by the original Switch’s heavily criticized cloud versions, Square Enix also announced Kingdom Hearts Collection [I~III]. Coming October 8, 2026, this complete compilation brings the entire Dark Seeker Saga to the Nintendo Switch 2 as fully native, non-cloud software running locally on the hardware.
To ensure a smooth transition, Square Enix confirmed they have officially ceased sales of the old Switch cloud versions as of today, with servers staying online until June 2027 so existing owners can migrate.
Key Collection Details:
The Full Package: Includes Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX, HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and Kingdom Hearts III packaged together with the Re Mind DLC.
Pre-Order Incentives: Digital pre-orders are live today. Players who already owned the digital cloud versions on the original Switch are eligible for a 50% loyalty discount on the new native editions.
Playable Demo Today: To prove the capabilities of the new hardware, a free native playable demo of Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind—focusing on the opening section of the Toy Story-themed Galaxy Toys world—went live on the Nintendo eShop immediately following the presentation.
